FAQ
Short answers to common questions about SI Fabrik.
Is SI Fabrik the same as Harness?#
Yes. SI Fabrik is the product's name; it was previously called Harness. Technical identifiers keep the old name so existing installs and projects keep working: harnessd, HARNESS_* variables, ~/Library/Application Support/Harness, .harness/ in workspaces, the harness-agent:latest image and harness:// links.
What is the Symphony specification?#
An open service specification for orchestrating coding agents from an issue tracker: polling, per-issue workspaces, a prompt template in WORKFLOW.md, retries and a small HTTP API. SI Fabrik implements it and adds sandboxes, managed git, links, guardrails and Remote mode.
Does the agent push code or open pull requests?#
No. The agent only commits. SI Fabrik saves the branch into your repository after every attempt and, at hand-off, pushes it and opens the pull request with your credentials, which the agent never sees.
Can I use my Claude subscription?#
On the host, Claude Code uses your existing login. In sandboxes, run claude setup-token and paste the token in Settings → Credentials.
Do I need Docker?#
By default, agents must run in a sandbox: Docker on your Mac or server, or Cloudflare Containers. On the Mac you can let one project's agents run without a sandbox with Edit Project → Allow agents to run directly on this Mac; they then run as you with bypassPermissions. See The sandbox floor.
Can agents see my tracker token or model key?#
Tracker tokens: never. Tracker updates go through host-side tools. Model keys: not in a sandbox. Docker and Cloudflare sandboxes only have a placeholder; the real key is added outside the sandbox, by the egress proxy's relay (Docker) or on your host (Cloudflare). Agents running on the host without a sandbox do see it. Push tokens are stripped from every agent and hook environment.
How do I stop agents from spending too much?#
Set limits: in each WORKFLOW.md (a daily budget, a cost cap per task, attempts before parking) and host-wide limits in Settings → Limits or harnessd.yaml. With a LiteLLM gateway, give each project a virtual key with a budget. See Budgets and limits.
What happens if SI Fabrik crashes mid-run?#
On restart, it removes workspaces of tasks already in a terminal state and dispatches active tasks again; their workspaces and saved branches are still there. Spend, parked tasks and pauses are kept, so a crash loop doesn't restart spending.
Can several people share one SI Fabrik?#
Yes: run harnessd on a server and connect from the Mac app. Each person has an account with a role. See Server architecture.
Can I move a project from my Mac to a server?#
Yes. Right-click it and choose Move to Server (admins). See Projects on a server.
Does it work with GitLab?#
For code, yes: pushes and merge requests use GitLab push options, with no CLI needed. For tasks, use the built-in board or ClickUp; the supported trackers are the built-in board, ClickUp and GitHub Issues.
Can I try it without spending tokens?#
The SI Fabrik source includes Tools/mock-claude.py, which speaks Claude Code's stream-json protocol: it explores the workspace, commits a change, comments through the tracker tools and moves the ticket to Human Review. Point a built-in-board project at it:
claude:
command: /path/to/harness/Tools/mock-claude.py # MOCK_DELAY=1 speeds it up
docker:
enabled: falseIs there an iPhone or web client?#
iPhone and web clients for harnessd are planned. The API refuses browser origins until then.
